Make Sure Your Home is Ready to Sell With These 3 Tips

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Once again, it’s about the time of year when old homes go on the market for sale. Unfortunately, too many homeowners simply list their home without doing any preparation beforehand. Instead, you need to examine your home objectively -- as if you were a prospective buyer looking at a new listing. If you can do this, you’ll sell fast and high.

Clean Everything

Most of us walk through the living room, dining room, and kitchen every single day. We don’t even notice the thin film of dust or the scraps of paper left on the cabinet. A prospective buyer will absolutely notice these things, and will judge the house accordingly.

Take an afternoon, or even a weekend, and spend some time thoroughly cleaning your home. Go over every surface, including the floors, countertops, and cabinet doors, to remove dust, dirt, and grime buildup. Polish the appliances and faucets. You can even wash the window panes.

Remove the Clutter

Your primary goal here is to ensure that the buyers focus on how incredible the open space appears, instead of on how cluttered or messy the living room is. If clutter has collected, try removing the shoes from the entryway, getting rid of the stack of mail, and even taking down family portraits for the day.

Keep it Simple

To ensure that the buyer can imagine themselves in your old home, you want to keep things simple. This applies to your home’s décor. Get rid of any art that may turn off those with different tastes. Take down the zebra-print towels from the bathroom, and perhaps, if possible, give the whole house a fresh coat of paint. These simple things can make a home come together cohesively, and attract potential buyers.
